Step 1-Self Assessment
| |
Developing Your Main Character, YOU!
SELF ASSESSMENT
What makes a successful career successful? Well, it means different things to
different people, but the general idea is that it provides you with more of the
things that meet your basic needs and gives you a sense of overall
satisfaction. So, if you are trying to find that balance, here are some
things to consider:
- Know who you are and who you are not.
Before you
begin your job search, first get a handle on who you are and who you are not.
Why is this important? Because now you have an opportunity to attract job
opportunities that fit your personality and skills and will provide you with
more job satisfaction than you had before. You're going to make a change anyway,
even if you need a job ASAP, so it might as well be a change for the better,
right? Right!
- Identify the types of jobs that are a good fit for you.
Once
you have an idea of what makes you tick and the types of jobs that you may
enjoy, you can take the steps to ensure that you make the most of your career.
Envision how you want your next job to look. Dare to dream!
Here are
some things to consider:
1. What you want and what you don't want in a job. 2.
What motivates you to do a good job. 3. What your talents are.
4. What employers need from you. 5. How to identify the
skills you possess that would be of interest to these employers. Once
you can answer the above questions sufficiently, you will be able to create a
job search plan that incorporates the real you. Don't worry if this seems
overwhelming. We will be happy to help you uncover the information about your
qualities and how they match up to the needs of employers. Remember, you have to
be the solution to their problems and we will show you how make sure they see
you as their solution. If you're currently employed and just want to investigate
the job market, this may be your only consideration for now. However, keep this
information nearby for quick reference. It will be a helpful tool if you want to
pursue opportunities within your current firm. HELPFUL CAREER ASSESSMENT RESOURCES:
